I Stopped Using Primer For Two Weeks & Here’s What Happened.

So I dunno if you guys remember, but I’ve been moaning for a few months now that no matter what I do, my foundation seems to keep playing slip and slide on my face.

I’ve switched moisturisers, used a combination of primers at the same time. I’ve used mattifying agents before and after my foundation. Dude nothing worked. All of my foundations refused to set, or my face got oily about two hours after application.

My routine looks like this. Wash, moisturise, sunscreen, primer, colour corrector, translucent powder over the colour corrector so that it stays in place in that order. Depending on how I’m feeling I may use powder on the oil prone parts of my face before I put my foundation on.

Then, after all of that, foundation. I have a pretty decent stable of primers, but there are a few that I tend to use more than others. Up until recently all the primers that I’m gonna list worked wonderfully, this problem just cropped up recently. So this may turn into a “Great Primers” post also, two birds y’all.

My First Time Ever Trying Black Radiance Beauty. A Haul.

IMAG7056_1

And as I’m wont to do, I went overboard. In my defence though, Walgreens online was having a buy two get one free, and it wasn’t the sort where you get the least expensive item free, it was based on the order that you placed stuff in your cart. Suffice to say, I got most of the higher priced items for free, although this brand is generally quite inexpensive, so I’m not sure  anything I got topped out over $9.99.

If you’re in disbelief that a black girl hasn’t tried Black Radiance Beauty, I’m right there with you. Most of it is because I’m so tragically used to dealing with mainstream brands that mostly cater towards lighter skin tones, that I’m used to having only two, at the most four shades to chose from.

When dealing with a brand that’s inclusive or geared towards women of colour, specifically black women, the choices become daunting. Since I happen to fall squarely in the middle of black girl melanin magic, with undertones that are mostly not catered to in most brands, I just get lazy and can’t be bothered.

However, in my bid to explore and support brands that cater to people that look like me, I started with a sale. So you know, if it doesn’t work I won’t feel too much pain. Plus, I’m looking to experiment, I get sick of the trying products from the same old brands, so if you have a contender out there that I should be checking out, let me know.

NEW!! Jouer Cosmetics Limited Edition Spring Collection.

IMAG7309_1

Since I’ve been trying to get posts back on the site after losing most of them, I haven’t been doing a whole lot of purchasing because I’ve been distracted. But like the Too Faced collection, I had actually set an alarm for this launch way ahead of time and was checked out of the website probably five minutes after it dropped. In fact I was done minutes before I received the official launch email from Jouer.

The collection is mostly rose gold themed and contains an eye shadow palette, two lip products in a rose gold shade and a powder highlighter also in rose gold.

The lip cream is probably my least favourite so far, but I sort of knew that going in.

(Re-Upload) Makeup Revolution X British Beauty Blogger Fortune Favours The Brave Eye Shadow Palette.

IMAG0196_1

I’ve been banging around with this chick for around a week now, and let me tell you it’s been fun, but I was completely unprepared for the pigmentation and subsequent blending struggles. Completely my fault tho, so…

I don’t know if you guys are familiar with her, since the name seems rather generic yeah? But British Beauty Blogger is one of my personal favourite bloggers. I like her because she gets a bit of everything, skincare, hair care, makeup and she’s thorough. She covers all skin tones and skin types, drug store and high end brands. The lady Jane knows her stuff.

So I was pretty stoked when I realised that she and MR had got together and had a love child. Listen, I wasn’t prepared. I thought I was, but really? I wasn’t, not for all that colour. First tip, don’t dig your brush into the pans, you’ll regret it. You’re just not grown enough for all that pigmentation.

(Re-Upload) New For Fall: Kiko Milano Neo Noir Collection

IMAG4680

Autumn is officially here. In makeup land anyway. It seems like every year the new collections debut earlier and earlier, soon we’ll be having the Autumn in June. Which you know, won’t suck because I tend to prefer the Fall offerings anyway cause the colour schemes are generally the ones that I prefer cause I’m a boring bitch.

(Re-Upload) Jouer LE Mermaid Collection.

IMAG3937

This is my first bonafide Jouer purchase. I remember that I got a lip gloss in a Glossybox some time ago, and while I thought it was ok, I didn’t run out and get a bunch of stuff from the brand because I wasn’t all that impressed cause, I’m not a gloss kinda chick. And real talk? It seemed like a real white identified line.

I’ve been eyeing a few things on the site though since some of my fave brown bloggers (@JackieAina and Danielle) seem to like them so…

(Re-Upload) Anti Holiday-BH Cosmetics Marble Collection Palettes.

IMAG5194

I find it patently ridiculous that with all the holiday items, many of them more grandiose, that this was the package that I was most excited to get in the mail. I think that a lot of it has to do with the aesthetic of the thing, these palettes are like nothing we’ve seen from BH so far.

(Re-Upload) I Found The Perfect Sunscreen.

IMAG4745

And that my friends is Colorescience whipped mineral sunscreen.

Do you know how hard it is as a brown chick to find an effective sunscreen that doesn’t white you out? Lemme tell ya, it’s hard, and that’s my excuse for slacking on sun care for almost a month, cause no one seems to realise brown people need sunscreen too. It may take the darker ones of us a little longer to get skin cancer, but we can and still do get it.  I had previously been using another sunscreen that I ran out of, but to tell the truth, I didn’t really like it all that much. Because it burned a little, it smelled terrible and I’m pretty sure it was slacking on the job since the driving side of my face would at times start to feel like leather.

(Re-Upload) Makeup Revolution New-Trals vs. Neutrals Palette

IMAG0347

Let’s get this out the way right off the top. This palette and I are not at all getting along. This is the palette that everyone of saying is another Makeup revolution dupe for the Sweet Peach palette. While that might be true (I don’t really see it it looks more like the ABH Modern Renaissance to me), but hey, what do I know?
