Last year I absolutely fell in love with the Dior Matte cheek fluids once I saw them on the Sephora site. They were even more gorgeous in person when I went on one of my rare jaunts into an actual store to see them in real life, you can read my review and see swatches of the shades from my review last year here. Last year I only wound up picking up two of the four limited edition shades and this year was no different.
Honestly I don’t even know why I do it to myself. I mean Too Faced has gotten pretty hit or miss over the last few years so not really sure what I was expecting going into this. And really, they’ve never been all that brown girl friendly beyond a certain shade of brown so yeah…I guess I was drawn in by all the pretty pictures on the Sephora website, but has anyone else noticed that Sephora has been over colour saturating their product photos? Like everything is five shades paler than it looks on the website.
I was having a day where I wasn’t having much work getting any writing done so I drove from the coffee shop I was at to the Sephora since it was on the way home. I had planned to pick up at least three of the blushes, a highlighter, finishing powder, a couple lipsticks, the palette and I was thinking of getting the foundation but I hadn’t decided yet. The only thing that I wound up getting was the palette and a sample of the foundation because everything? It’s kinda trash, sorry. I took pictures of everything and swatched most things.
Are you guys familiar at all with Joe Fresh? I mean, I know of the clothing side of the brand, I own a couple pairs of very unique jeans that I absolutely adore and I’d heard about their cosmetics line intermittently. The brand is a Canadian drugstore one, so being able to find it anywhere in the states is almost impossible, and while finding no shortage of Canadian bloggers that have reviewed the line, finding a dark skinned one proved to be impossible. I found not a one. A month ago Haute Look had a Joe Fresh for sale (they frequently have the brand this is the third time I’ve seen), and they had the entire line, everything priced between $4 and $11. I did some damage.
So apparently, I’ve developed quite the Makeup Revolution crush haven’t I?
These two blush palettes are also new launches, or at lease that’s what it said on the website, who knows sometimes brands leave “newly” launched things on front page for months.
Really, I got these because of the pretty. Like for real, if you look at these on any website and don’t immediately reach for your credit card (or you know, some willing sucker’s) then you have the fortitude of job my friend. I however, do not, so buy I did.
The Burberry Lip & Cheek Blooms are multi-use products for cheeks and (duh) lips. You guys know how I feel about multi-use products , I think most of them do one job well, and not the other so more often than not I don’t even bother to try them as lip products because of this is where they fail. In this case I didn’t either.
There are six colours available in the range, and of the six colours I got five Hydrangea, which I purchased after all the others and didn’t swatch because when I received it, it was a lot cooler looking than it looked online, so I gave it to someone and I really hate giving people things that my fingers have been in. The other colours I got were Peony, Orange Blossom, Poppy and Purple Tulip.
I’ve been on a luxury makeup kick for a few months now. It started right after the wedding around the time of the Sephora VIB/Rouge sale, just before black Friday I think it was. I’m not really sure what came over me. It may have been the euphoria of getting married, or more likely (sorry love) the thrill of getting independent of wedding gifts, more than $400 in Sephora gift cards.
I’ve always said that I don’t see the point of luxury brands of makeup. I feel like the price points are more than a little bit ridiculous, but, I decided that I wanted to see if in fact there were a difference between regular ole brands like Too Faced and Burberry and it’s ilk.
To celebrate their 20th birthday, Kiko recently launched the limited edition Less is Better Collection. It consists of liquid highlighters, matte liquid lipsticks, two cream blushes, shadow pencils and a nine pan shadow palette. This collection is a collaboration with the brand SuperDuper Handmade hats, and is a completely nude collection meant to emphasise the no makeup look, whilst celebrating natural beauty. This is a limited edition collection that I find rather odd as a Spring debut. Spring makeup debuts are generally either bright or whimsical creatures, whereas this collection plays with very dark, yet muted colours that are usually associated with Fall or Winter.
