Is anyone else hella exhausted by all the sales and new stuff that seems to be dropping daily? Hell I know I am. The Sephora Rouge/VIB sale just freaking ended and here we are at Thanksgiving and now Black Friday once again. I ain’t buying a damn thing else, not least of all because between the Rouge sale and Ulta, I’ve already dropped a tonne of money in the last two weeks.
Last year I absolutely fell in love with the Dior Matte cheek fluids once I saw them on the Sephora site. They were even more gorgeous in person when I went on one of my rare jaunts into an actual store to see them in real life, you can read my review and see swatches of the shades from my review last year here. Last year I only wound up picking up two of the four limited edition shades and this year was no different.
Becca has a few holiday offerings at the moment, but this is in my opinion the only one worth getting. I dunno, but I feel like at this point Becca has very little to offer in terms of new or innovative, like literally how many shimmering skin perfectors can you come out with? I mean…I know that’s your thing and whatnot, but for real? All of the new offerings are some form of shimmering skin perfector gift set, the exception being this little ditty here and while it does have skin perfectors it, that isn’t all it has.
Honestly I don’t even know why I do it to myself. I mean Too Faced has gotten pretty hit or miss over the last few years so not really sure what I was expecting going into this. And really, they’ve never been all that brown girl friendly beyond a certain shade of brown so yeah…I guess I was drawn in by all the pretty pictures on the Sephora website, but has anyone else noticed that Sephora has been over colour saturating their product photos? Like everything is five shades paler than it looks on the website.
I was having a day where I wasn’t having much work getting any writing done so I drove from the coffee shop I was at to the Sephora since it was on the way home. I had planned to pick up at least three of the blushes, a highlighter, finishing powder, a couple lipsticks, the palette and I was thinking of getting the foundation but I hadn’t decided yet. The only thing that I wound up getting was the palette and a sample of the foundation because everything? It’s kinda trash, sorry. I took pictures of everything and swatched most things.
When Fiona Stiles hit Ulta about…I wanna say maybe a year and a half ago? I was intrigued. I liked the look of the packaging, and the colour combinations looked interesting. But…I’d never heard of Fiona Stiles. Like who was this chick and why was I supposed to care that she had a makeup line now? The price point became the second issue for me. I’m not about to drop almost forty dollars on a single product from a brand that I know nothing about, that’s barely been reviewed. Nah.
Ugh! Why did they have to do this to me? Because I don’t have enough damn blushes? Seriously.
I’m not like a huge Nars stan, honestly I like their blushes and I like their foundations,, and I own a ton of their lip pencils. Ok, maybe I need to re-evaluate my original statement. Anywhoo, I’ve gotten a couple of eye shadow palettes that I didn’t care for. Not in terms of quality or consistency, I just found them to be exceedingly boring. I’d gotten a sample of the All Day Luminous Foundation and loved the hell out of it, but have never pulled the trigger on it, even though I keep threatening to.
I like the idea of IT Cosmetics. The reality is often something else though for a couple of reasons. If you follow Jackie Aina on YouTube, she details how the foundations are too light for her. The one foundation she had been able to use, left her looking corpsey. I can use the last shade in most of their lines, Rich, pretty well. However I do get the grey cast that she talks about as well. The undertones on their foundation products for deeper complexions are…lacking.
